The Mysterious Story of the Heversham Cross
After 150 years, a fragment of a mysterious cross was relocated from the porch to the interior of St Peter’s Church Heversham. The origins of this cross have intrigued church officials and archaeological societies for over a century.
To explore the cross’s history and the arrival of Christianity in general, St Peter’s Church enlisted Lil Creative Studio to create an interpretive display. In collaboration with TenStories, we developed a series of four information panels. These panels narrate the history of the Heversham Cross, highlight the significance of a grand parish chest — believed to be the oldest and largest of its kind in Westmorland — and delve into the broader story of Christianity’s arrival in the British Isles. This display enriches the visitor experience by connecting the church’s ancient artifacts with the wider historical context of the region.
The exhibition is still in development, with a timeline chronicling the history of Christianity in Heversham currently in progress.
