At a time when community has become so important, it was lovely to be asked to design the local Kirkby Community Centre website.

Kirkby Community Centre is a multi-purpose, modern recreational ground, serving the South Lakes and beyond. It is set in the tiny hamlet of Beckside and at the foot of Kirkby fell. The original ‘pavilion’ was opened in 1970; and whilst undergoing numerous improvements over the years, thanks to the hard work of the Centre Committee and the local community a newly refurbished Centre opened in October 2020.

The website has been a community project with local videographer Dan May filming the Centre from above for the opening video, and the local History Group providing content and numerous historic photographs from the last 40 years.

Working on a community website means making sure it is suitable for current use, as well as future proofing all aspects as the committee evolves and changes. Whilst this has meant compromises on certain ‘wishes,’ it has also led to finding new ways of doing things.

Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions the Centre has yet to have its official Opening Day party (in the last week even the local village Gala has been cancelled). But all being well we have been promised a big village party soon to celebrate not only this lovely new building, but also the local village community.
